Biography
Estrogen Highs emerged from New Haven, Connecticut, as a lo-fi pop outfit whose sound relies on a lean, jangly approach and carries an understated punk edge. The project originated with Stefan Christensen, who serves as the band’s singer, songwriter, guitarist, and occasional keyboardist; prior to this venture he had already collaborated with Career Suicide, Last Words, and Sudden Works. Christensen first presented Estrogen Highs in 2007 through a solo demo tape on which he performed every instrument, and the recording supplied the track “E Major D Construction,” issued as a single on his own Never Heard of It imprint. Later that same year he expanded the effort into a full band by recruiting guitarist and bassist Mark Scialabba, multi-instrumentalist Wes Nelson on bass, guitar, and vocals, and drummer Ross Menze. The expanded lineup began touring and committed its debut album, Tell It to Them, to Dead Beat Records in 2008. After issuing several 7-inch singles, the group delivered its second LP, Friends and Relatives, in 2010 on Gramercy Records, the label Christensen established as successor to Never Heard of It. In 2012 Estrogen Highs aligned with the pop/punk imprint Trouble In Mind for the release of its third album, Irrelevant Future; the same label issued the band’s fourth full-length effort, Hear Me on the Number Station, in 2014.
