Before pursuing band work, the singer/songwriter Peter Walker blended mellow pop songs and alt-country touches as a solo performer. After releasing the L.A.-based musician’s two early albums—2004’s Landed and 2006’s Young Gravity—he recruited bassist Tim Hutton and drummer Chris Reynolds to perform the songs onstage. The three players soon discovered a chemistry that reached past Walker’s solo catalog, prompting them to form Eulogies as a collaborative band in 2007. Eulogies inked a deal with Dangerbird Records, the same imprint behind Walker’s prior releases, and delivered its self-titled debut album in September 2007; a fall tour with Film School followed. While traveling, Walker began shaping songs intended for the group’s second album, yet Hutton departed before sessions started, leading drummer Garrett Deloian to take his spot. Drew Phillips also came aboard on additional guitar, expanding Eulogies to a quartet. The band released the EP Tempted to Do Nothing in late 2008 and followed it with the full-length Here Anonymous in April 2009.
