Executioner

In 1984 the Boston, MA speed metal trio Executioner came together through vocalist/guitarist Marc Johnson, bassist Ari Vianio, and drummer Dan Scannell. The New Renaissance label put out their first album, In the Name of Metal, in 1986, after which the band joined a U.S. tour alongside underground favorites Voivod, Kreator, St. Vitus, and Dream Death. During those dates, new bassist Seth Putnam was brought in; he played on Executioner’s 1987 follow-up, Break the Silence, before departing to start Anal Cunt. The group persisted a while longer until it finally dissolved, at which point the demos cut with third bassist Tommy Flynn found their way onto the 2000 odds-and-ends release The Storm After the Calm.
