Biography
Formed in Denmark during the mid-1960s, the Exploding Mushroom was an obscure group whose lineup drew musicians from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Denmark itself. Among its participants, bassist Mac MacLeod stood out as the best-known figure, having joined Donovan for occasional performances throughout the 1960s while also producing additional obscure material both on his own and within various psychedelic ensembles. The band released just a single scarce 45, pairing "There Will Come a Day" with "Give Back What You Stole (From Me)," a recording that blended folk-rock echoes of Bob Dylan and early traces of organ-driven psychedelia. These tracks later appeared on the Mac MacLeod compilation The Incredible Musical Odyssey of the Original Hurdy Gurdy Man.
