Biography
Following the breakup of EZTV, songwriter Ezra Tenenbaum launched Ezrat as his next endeavor. The ensemble maintained Tenenbaum’s affinity for airy tunes and understated, ringing indie pop laced with psychedelia in the style of the paisley underground, introducing listeners to its initial material via the self-released album Carousel in 2020.
EZTV, the New York-based outfit, entered a hiatus after an extended period of road work, during which principal songwriter Tenenbaum began sketching fresh ideas in his downtime. Between 2017 and 2018 the group issued a handful of leftover recordings, yet Tenenbaum gradually stepped away to concentrate on the newer compositions. Joined in the studio by former EZTV drummer Michael Stasiak, saxophonist Kyle Forester, and an array of additional friends and supporting musicians, he shaped the strongest pieces from dozens of unpolished home recordings. Those dreamy, gently psychedelic sessions yielded Ezrat’s debut album, Carousel, which the band made available online in May 2020, with a vinyl edition slated for later that year.
