Biography
Führs & Fröhling formed after the 1979 breakup of the eclectic German ensemble Schicke Führs Fröhling, which dissolved following the exit of drummer Eduard Schicke, leaving the pair as its surviving two-thirds. The resulting all-instrumental unit centered on guitarist Heinz Fröhling and keyboardist Gerhard Führs. Working without percussion, the duo cultivated a leaner, more atmospheric palette than their former group, frequently highlighting Fröhling’s incisive acoustic work. Issued in 1978, their debut Ammerland proved uneven yet intermittently inspired. On the follow-up Strings, which arrived in 1979, the musicians incorporated drums—several performed by Führs—while shifting away from overt progressive elements in favor of stylistic explorations across multiple genres. Their last recording, Dairy (1981), returned the project closer to its foundational approach.
