Biography
Emerging from Rio de Janeiro during the 1990s, Família Roitman saw their debut recording O Samba Nas Regras da Arte come out in 1995, with distribution extending to Europe, the U.S., and Japan via Buda. This effort showcased the young players' goal of honoring samba traditions through wit and skilled musicianship. In 1997, the group embarked on a Brazilian tour as part of the Pixinguinha project alongside Nelson Sargento. Their follow-up album Coisa da Antiga sustains this warm appreciation for samba by featuring works from esteemed songwriters including Elton Medeiros, Délcio Carvalho, Maurício Carrilho, Paulo César Pinheiro, Paulinho da Viola, Chico Buarque, and Noel Rosa.
