Biography
Fan Death draws its name from a Korean superstition warning that an electric fan left running overnight inside a sealed room could trigger hypothermia or suffocation, qualities the duo’s sound mirrors through icy textures and enveloping density. Dandilion Wind Opaine, formerly of Dandi Wind, and Marta Jaciubek-McKeever emphasize the shadowy side of the disco revival, evident in tracks such as “Cannibal” and their coolly distant vocal approach. The pair first assembled in Brooklyn, New York, during 2007, later relocating to Vancouver, B.C., where they issued the EP A Coin for the Well in 2009. Producer Szam Findlay, violinist Marlene Ginader, and drummer Tony Dallas joined for live performances, expanding the lineup to a quintet that opened for Little Boots and Vampire Weekend throughout the opening months of 2010 while Last Gang Records readied the full-length debut Womb of Dreams for summer release.
