Biography
Fannie & the Varcels from Philadelphia issued their sole release on Howard Ravisky's Lash label in May 1963, pairing "Inside Me" with its flip side "The Guy." Once the single failed to connect, the ensemble disbanded, prompting Fannie Lee Cobb to enter Honey & the Bees—distinct from the Arctic/Josie act—and cut an improved rendition of "Inside Me" featuring women's backing vocals and a more energetic rhythm. Bobby Harman, Charles Griffin, and Charles Robinson formed the Varcels, with the quartet having first come together in north Philadelphia.
