Biography
Emerging from a lineage of griots, Damba launched her recording career in the 1960s and soon distinguished herself as a foremost exponent of Mali’s diverse traditions, attaining widespread acclaim before the decade closed. She assembled her own ensemble in 1975, regularly appearing with her two daughters in performance. In 1985 she stepped away from the stage, already regarded as a legendary artist.
