Fatima stands among the foremost British R&B voices of the 2010s. Born in Stockholm and later based in London, the vocalist joined the Eglo roster and worked steadily with numerous peers across the scene. Her earliest appearances include guest spots on Hygher Baby’s Let Me Play U Something U Have Never Heard and Tettory Bad’s “Unite.” In 2009 she contributed lead vocals to two cuts from FunkinEven’s Kleer EP and appeared on Floating Points’ “Peroration V,” both Eglo releases; she also teamed with then-future Eglo artist Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra for the Plug Research single “Lil Girl.” The four-track Mindtravelin EP arrived in 2010, its productions divided among VeeBeeo, Dam-Funk, and FunkinEven. Follow You, a five-track set helmed entirely by Floating Points, came next and was fronted by the dreamy “Cinnamon” and the tougher “Mind,” a track that aligned her with Jill Scott. The lighter Phoneline EP, again with FunkinEven, surfaced in 2012, followed by two further Eglo 12-inches the next year. Her first full-length, Yellow Memories, appeared in 2015 and earned Album of the Year honors at BBC DJ Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards. Blue Note then signed Fatima and, in 2016, issued the EP Still Dreaming, mixing archival and fresh material.
