Originally called the Beat Society, the London sextet Felders Orioles performed R&B with a somewhat jazzy, sax-driven sound. The group signed to Pye in 1965, which led to four singles issued on the Piccadilly imprint across the following two years, the strongest of which was probably “Turn On Your Lovelight.” None of the releases fared especially well, and the band eventually broke up. Drummer John Halsey sustained the longest recording and performing career of any member, working with Roy Harper, Joan Armatrading, Neil Innis, Patto, Annette Peacock, Roger Chapman, and Decameron while also joining the Rutles.
