Fern Knight, the East Coast neo-psychedelic folk ensemble, originated in 1999 through the efforts of multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Margie Wienk. Drawing from the example of longstanding British folk groups such as Pentangle, Comus, and the Sallyangie, the band shapes a reverb-laden, updated vision of 1960s mysticism that draws heavily on the shadowy, playful grandeur of today’s acid folk practitioners including Faun Fables, Vetiver, and Espers. Their alluring opening release, Seven Years of Severed Limbs, appeared in 2003 through Normal Records, with Music for Witches and Alchemists arriving in 2006 and the self-titled Fern Knight following in 2008, the final pair issued on the VHF imprint.
