Fes Taylor

Since the mid-'90s Fes Taylor has remained a steady presence in New York’s underground rap circles. The artist, born in Harlem and raised on Staten Island, first performed under the name Profes and sharpened his abilities through talent-show appearances and rap battles. After signing with Black Fist Records, the hard-edged MC contributed to the label’s biggest release, King Just’s Mystics of the God, which reached the upper half of Billboard’s R&B albums chart in 1995. Though he never fronted a project for the imprint, Taylor emerged as one of the East Coast’s most active rappers, releasing dozens of albums and mixtapes across the following twenty years, most of them on Chambermusik. His catalog of guest spots and group affiliations is equally substantial, encompassing collaborations with Inspectah Deck, Mr. Prezident, and Smif-N-Wessun’s Tek.
