Serving as veteran polyglot King Britt's Afrofuturist techno alias, Fhloston Paradigm takes its name from Luc Besson's 1997 science fiction film The Fifth Element. The project first appeared in 2009 through Charlie Sleeps, an EP honoring Telefon Tel Aviv's Charlie Cooper after his recent passing. Comparable short-form releases that appeared through 2011 were likewise distributed as free downloads. Britt formed a connection with Kode9's Hyperdub imprint in 2012, issuing the brilliant three-track 12" and digital download Chasing Rainbows. Even while pursuing numerous artistic endeavors, among them the one-album duo Saturn Never Sleeps, Britt set Fhloston Paradigm aside before delivering the 2014 Hyperdub album The Phoenix.
