Biography
Fusing rap with dancehall and Afro-pop textures, Uganda's Fik Fameica reached the wider African audience in the final years of the 2010s through club tracks including "Byenyenya" and "My Property" plus the Patoranking duet "Omu Bwati." He subsequently founded his own imprint and kept releasing material at a regular pace across 2020.
Born Walukagga Shafik in Kampala, the rapper first performed under the names Fresh Boy and, more widely, Fik Fameica. His entry arrived with the 2015 dancefloor cut "Pistol," yet national visibility arrived only with the 2017 song "Byenyena" and a deal signed to Kama Ivien Management.
Collecting three HiPipo Awards in 2018, among them Breakthrough Award and Best in Hip-Hop, Fameica enjoyed a peak stretch that produced multiple popular singles and the three albums Kutama, Skonto, and My Journey. The year 2019 brought a run of collaborations with Patoranking, Rayvanny, Wembley Mo, and Natacha, most issued through his own Fresh Gang Records. That steady output extended into the next year on cuts such as "Muko" and the Sheebah joint "Tevunya."
