Firehorse

Firehorse fuses hazy singing, understated electronic textures, and airy instrumental touches into a sound recalling the playful sophistication of the Bird and the Bee alongside Björk’s atmospheric intensity. The Brooklyn quartet took its name from the Chinese zodiac emblem of autonomy, boldness, and unbound creativity, and its lineup unites classical violinist and one-time advertising tunesmith Leah Siegel—formerly of Brooklyn Boogaloo Blowout and Citizens Band, and daughter of National Public Radio host Robert Siegel—with guitarist Steve Elliot, bassist Tim Luntzel (Rosanne Cash, Loudon Wainwright III), and drummer Brian Wolfe (Sufjan Stevens, My Brightest Diamond). In September 2011 the group issued its first album, And So They Ran Faster…, on the PledgeMusic imprint; the release drew admiration from Prince and coverage in outlets such as Time Magazine, both centered on Siegel’s commanding delivery and her richly suggestive compositions.
