In the Detroit techno community spanning the 2000s and 2010s, FIT Siegel stood out as one of its most essential presences. Beyond operating the FIT Sound imprint and the FIT Distribution enterprise, his productions—most notably the widely praised 2015 single “Carmine”—blend house, new wave, acid, and electro elements into a gripping, at times wistful whole.

Aaron Siegel first experimented with music creation while still in high school, then developed a serious passion for record collecting shortly afterward. Employment at the Detroit venue Oslo led him into concert promotion, where he arranged local appearances for Egyptian Lover and Legowelt. Encouraged by Underground Resistance’s Mike Banks, he launched a distribution operation that began with in-person visits to record shops, expanded to an online platform, and grew through exchanges with European labels and retailers. Toward the close of the 2000s he established FIT Sound, which issued dance-focused singles from Marcellus Pittman and Anthony “Shake” Shakir, while its sister concern Est. 83’ Records concentrated on more experimental releases often shaped by post-punk and new wave aesthetics.

Siegel’s own recordings surfaced in 2012, including the collaboration “Enter the Fog” with Gunnar Wendel, known as Kassem Mosse, and the club favorite “Tonite” featuring vocalist L’Renee; both appeared on Omar-S’s FXHE label, with the latter track also co-produced by Omar-S. FIT Sound additionally released a split 12-inch pairing Siegel with Chicago house veteran Marcus Mixx. The following year brought “Cocomo,” succeeded in 2015 by “Carmine,” a striking cut that landed on multiple year-end lists. In 2016 he teamed with Tim “Love” Lee on the single “Living Is Serious Business,” which received a Carl Craig remix. Working as S & M Trading Co. with DJ Sotofett, Siegel issued “Metal Surface Repair” in 2018. Early the next year he delivered “Saboten,” again alongside Kassem Mosse, and ceased operations at his distribution company.
