Biography
During Britain's mid-'60s musical ferment, numerous moderately talented outfits such as Five Steps Beyond slipped into obscurity without wider notice. The group issued only a lone single in 1966. On that solitary 45, the members contributed vocals alone while session musicians supplied every instrumental line. Quite a few unreleased demos of original songs came to light in the mid-'90s, demonstrating that Five Steps Beyond operated as a competent, no-frills pop/rock unit. Their close harmonies and Paul Quinton's Colin Blunstone-like vocals placed the sound between early Zombies and Hollies territory, though the band never reached the same level of distinction as either act.
