Biography
In 2011 Los Angeles residents Jerry Narrows and Daniel Koontz, previously creative partners, launched the dark indie synth pop outfit Flaamingos. Earlier shoegaze projects from their youth gave way to a new focus on the grimmer side of their creative instincts, realized through drum-machine pulses shaped by Krautrock, plus brooding post-punk basslines and vocal melodies that mirrored the Factory Records aesthetic at its bleakest and most static. Months of local performances around L.A. turned them into regulars at the Echo’s Part Time Punks night. After further refining their approach they issued the Walk a Wire EP in February 2012 and followed it with a more refined self-titled debut album in 2013.
