Biography
The Seattle trio Flake fused anguished, frustrated lyrics with bright, buoyant pop melodies when they issued their first recording, the 1993 7-inch Start Without Me. Guitarist and vocalist Rob Middleton plus bassist Ken Ackerlund cycled through multiple drummers until Rob Cunningham joined the group in 1996. After Y Records released the band’s debut album Box, Flake took the record on the road in the company of Love Battery and Muzzle. Y Records sustained its commitment the next year by putting out Flake’s follow-up album, Wild Cool Anger.
