Flanger

The Flanger collaboration between Atom Heart and Bernd Friedmann fuses longstanding jazz ingredients with radical filtering and post-production methods. Their 1999 album Templates began with live takes on drums, bass, piano, and vibraphone that were subsequently fed through custom editing routines until the original timbres became unrecognizable. Ninja Tune Records, the respected imprint associated with Kid Koala, DJ Food, and Funki Porcini, issued the project in June 1999. Midnight Sound appeared the following fall.
