Biography
Originating from East Prairie, Missouri, siblings Fleming McWilliams—who performed vocals, flute, and percussion—and her brother Shawn on drums and vocals eventually led Fleming to Nashville. There she connected with Miami native John Mark Painter, whose roles covered guitar, trumpet, and vocals; the pair launched Fleming & John by adding Shawn on drums and Berklee graduate Stan Rawls on bass. The resulting quartet inked a contract with the R.E.X. label, unveiling Delusions of Grandeur in 1991, with later releases featuring 1998’s The Way We Are.
