Emerging from the late-’90s Orange County ska environment that had already yielded No Doubt and the OC Supertones, the Christian-oriented band Flight 180 took shape. Led by vocalist Kim Tennberg, the group had begun under the shorter name 180 before adopting its expanded title. Their debut album, Crackerjack, appeared in 1998 and earned modest traction within ska circles, yet a single swing-flavored track drew the strongest response. Recognizing that momentum, the musicians leaned further into swing on their 1999 follow-up, Lineup, where they interpreted Stray Cats’ “Look At That Cadillac” and Nat King Cole’s “This Can't Be Love.” Although the stylistic detour was conceived as a nod to longtime supporters, it left newer listeners uncertain about the band’s identity. Two years afterward, Flight 180 returned to its earlier musical approach with the album Boys & Girls.
