Biography
Flintlock emerged in the mid-1970s as a British teenybop outfit fronted by drummer and heart-throb Mike Holoway, whose first widespread exposure came through the children’s science-fiction series The Tomorrow People. That programme followed a group of adolescents who had surpassed ordinary humans and now protected the planet’s destiny. Holoway portrayed the aspiring singer Mike Bell during the show’s fourth season, adopting an artificial cockney accent both in character and in real life. One episode, “The Heart Of Sogguth,” featured the band performing a track whose supposedly hypnotic rhythm was meant to signal an alien invasion. Despite heavy promotion in juvenile publications such as Look In, Flintlock’s sole chart success remained the 1976 single “Dawn,” their overall sound proving as flimsy as the programme’s rudimentary scenery.
