Flop

In 1989 Flop came together when vocalist and guitarist Rusty Willoughby and drummer Nate Johnson exited Pure Joy to link with guitarist Bill Campbell, formerly of Chemistry Set, and bassist Paul Schurr, ex-member of the Seers of Bavaria. The band’s first outing, the terrifically melodic, driving punk-pop album Flop and the Fall of the Mopsqueezer!, surfaced on Frontier Records and prompted a deal with Epic for the equally catchy major-label follow-up Whenever You're Ready. Epic parted ways with the group soon after the tour supporting that record. Back on Frontier, the band sharpened its attack, rendering its dry-witted, intelligent pop even more compelling.
