The J-Rock quartet Flumpool traces its origins to 2002, when childhood friends Ryuuta Yamamura and Kazuki Sakai—both guitarists—joined forces. They soon recruited bassist Genki Amakawa, an acquaintance, and performed under the name Cube at small clubs. After several years gigging throughout the Osaka circuit, the group expanded in 2007 with the addition of drummer Seiji Ogura, adopted the name Flumpool, and launched its recording career. Its adult-contemporary style, positioned between glossy pop and more ballad-driven adult fare, quickly yielded modest breakthroughs via the early singles “Iabo” and “Hana Ni Nare.” Building on that momentum, the band issued its debut mini-album, Unreal, in late 2008. Despite its abbreviated length, the record demonstrated genuine musical substance beneath its radio-friendly surface and secured the quartet an Oricon Top Ten debut that ultimately reached number two on the album chart.
