Fmb Dz, the Detroit rapper, captured significant notice during 2017 upon dropping his debut mixtape titled I Ain't Gonna Lie. At just 23 years old when it came out, he had already been involved in the city's underground scene without putting out substantial material prior to that point. The mixtape earned widespread acclaim internationally, prompting efforts toward a subsequent release and partnerships with fellow artists, including a feature on Joseph McFashion's song "Raw." Completed during the summer of 2017, the follow-up project Washington DZ faced a delay when Dz suffered a non-fatal shooting ahead of its August launch, though he recovered swiftly afterward. By December 2017, he put out his third mixtape, The Gift.
