Biography
Embodying alternative pop and rock frameworks that highlighted both the group’s indie-rock origins and their classical leanings, For Stars required more than a decade to secure recognition as a cohesive unit. The project began when a circle of friends casually collaborated in a series of short-lived ensembles before coalescing as For Stars in 1998. At that point the core California lineup comprised Christian Preja on bass, Carlos Forster on guitar and vocals, percussionist Tommy Cassey, and guitarist Mike Young. Once drummer Mike Funk and keyboardist Dan Paris joined, the ensemble immediately turned its attention to recording a debut album. Later that same year the self-titled For Stars reached stores and maintained steady commercial traction. The next year the musicians captured their sophomore effort, Windows for Stars, which appeared on the Future Farmer imprint. While cultivating a steadily expanding audience, the band experienced its first personnel shift when drummer Funk departed and Nick Fritas took his place. In 2001 For Stars issued their third album, We Are All Beautiful People. After an extended absence the group resurfaced in 2004 with It Falls Apart, presenting a more fully developed and cohesive sound.
