The Forgotten built a sizable following across both America and Europe by channeling confrontational ideas through the charged lens of punk revival and Oi!, with their intense material consistently igniting enthusiastic crowds. Originating in San Jose, California, the group came together in 1997 when frontman Gordy Carbone and guitarist Craig Fairbaugh joined forces. Bassist Johnny Gregurich and drummer Dkash (aka Dave Kashka) soon completed the lineup, allowing the quartet to begin performing at area clubs. Still during 1997 the band cut its debut release, the single Class Separation, for San Francisco’s TKO Records. Buoyed by the response to their high-energy concerts, the Forgotten next prepared a full-length debut. Issued in 1999, Veni Vidi Vici made an impression inside the punk-rock underground and earned the band a U.S. tour alongside U.K. legends Peter and the Test Tube Babies. The following year the Californians returned with their second TKO album, Keep the Corpses Quiet, which again drew solid notice. An extended period of road work ensued, encompassing multiple European dates. Ask No Question, a ten-song EP, appeared several months before Singles Collection, a compilation issued in Europe by Core-Tex/Bad Dog Records. Those successful overseas runs secured a contract with the American punk indie BYO, which put out the Control Me LP in 2002; the band followed it with Out of Print in May 2003. Fairbaugh also toured alongside Lars Frederiksen and the Transplants before later joining Mercy Killers and +44.
