Biography
Forgotten Sol emerged as a five-piece ensemble based in Seattle, fusing funk, hip-hop, and blues into the sound they themselves label soulful bohemian funk. Sociopolitical concerns dominate the songwriting of lead vocalist Cristina Orbé, whereas guitarist Dan Moore injects audible rock accents into the ensemble’s earthy texture. The pair established Forgotten Sol in 2001 and issued a self-titled EP two years afterward. Over the following period they recruited permanent players from across the Northwest, completing the lineup by 2005 with Chris Stromquist on drums, Justin Cayou on bass, and Okanomode, also known as SoulChilde, supplying backing vocals. Geoff Stanfield handled engineering and production duties for the band’s first full-length release, Contradiction, which appeared in 2006. Energetic and fluid stage shows have become a hallmark, allowing Forgotten Sol to sustain a strong regional foothold throughout the Northwest.
