Biography
Having developed a fondness for surf and garage rock from the 1960s along with the folk-rock and singer/songwriter eras that came afterward, Daniel Colussi performed with the Shilohs and issued material as the Pinc Lincolns prior to introducing the Fortunato Durutti Marinetti persona during 2020. The opening full-length Desire preceded Memory's Fool two years later, a reflective collection shaped more explicitly by songwriters of the 1970s such as Lou Reed, Joni Mitchell, and Robert Wyatt.
Daniel Colussi entered the world in Turin, Italy, and later settled in Canada, where he received an invitation in the late 2000s to serve as bassist for Vancouver's the Shilohs, joining drummer Ben Frey plus original members Johnny Payne and Mike Komaszczuk. Drawing from acts including the Beatles, Big Star, and the Flying Burrito Brothers, the ensemble issued So Wild in 2013. Colussi also supplied songwriting and performance contributions to the Shilohs' follow-up effort, 2014's The Shilohs, before exiting the group.
While residing in Winnipeg, Colussi put out multiple solo recordings under the Pinc Lincolns name shortly thereafter, beginning with the raw, garage rock-infused The Best of the Pinc Lincolns in 2014. A cassette edition arrived via Shake! Records the next year. Self-released efforts Offered Up in 2015 and Joy to the World in 2017 came next, reflecting a shift toward more psychedelic late British Invasion textures. The fourth Pinc Lincolns album, On the Plain, surfaced in 2018, after which Colussi relocated to Toronto and adopted a new artistic identity.
For the inaugural Fortunato Durutti Marinetti release, the self-issued Desire, the songwriter worked alongside musicians such as Jay Arner, Jessica Delisle of Energy Slime, and Nicolas Bragg from Destroyer; the album emerged in May 2020. Interest from record labels followed, leading to the March 2022 release of Memory's Fool on Bobo Integral Records and Soft Abuse Records, an effort more centered on 1970s songcraft that notably omitted the promotional single also titled "Memory's Fool." Returning collaborators Arner and Delisle appeared alongside Sandro Perri of Polmo Polpo, who handled mixing and mastering duties.
