Biography
Blending the refined sweetness of Take 6 with New Edition’s lively bounce and layering on a contemporary urban grit produces the distinctive approach Fortune brings to contemporary R&B. Singers Sule, Austin, Shai, and Bouie, all former members of the Boys Choir of Harlem, were assembled into the quartet by Michael “Vegas” Harrison, the producer previously known for his work with Zhané and Raekwon. Drawing from Berry Gordy’s methodical approach to developing talent, Harrison insisted on thorough preparation before wider exposure, treating every rehearsal and live appearance—regardless of scale—with the same seriousness as studio work and deliberately delaying radio and BET placement until each member’s dedication was confirmed. That strategy paid off when stations and clubs began spinning the group’s singles “Play a While” and “Winner.” Fortune further expanded its reach by contributing a track to the Miramax soundtrack All the Women I’ve Loved, issued in early 2005.
