Biography
Foxx Bodies deliver raw, confessional punk in the spirit of Bikini Kill and Sleater-Kinney, laying bare struggles with mental illness, sexual abuse, and other difficult realities. The quartet first unveiled their volatile surf-punk approach on the 2016 self-titled album, which they tracked in a single day, then refined the attack with tighter production on the 2021 follow-up Vixen.
Bella Vanek on vocals, guitarist Bailey Moses, bassist Matt Vanek, and drummer Adam Bucholz were sharing a house in Tucson, Arizona when they formed the group so Vanek could use loud music as a therapeutic outlet while confronting childhood trauma. Those primal scream sessions evolved into cathartic tracks blending punk and surf elements, and the band’s debut performance came as openers at the release show for Lando Chill’s 2016 album For Mark, Your Son. That March they laid down their first demos, followed in April by the What a Tease! EP. In August they issued their self-titled debut LP, captured in the living room of friend and fellow musician Ben Schneider.
Later the group moved to Los Angeles, joined the Kill Rock Stars roster, and began tracking their sophomore album with producers John Goodmanson and Erik Blood. Early in 2020 they released the advance single “Victim One/Know Your Rights,” but the COVID-19 pandemic forced a delay of the full-length. When Vixen finally appeared in November 2021, it smoothed some of the band’s rough edges while retaining its unflinchingly candid songs.
