Biography
Foyer Red crafts angular indie rock compositions marked by strong melodic hooks and drawing from math rock, punk, art rock, and lighter indie pop traditions. Operating as a five-piece with dual lead vocalists, the Brooklyn outfit issued its first full-length effort, the exuberant Yarn the Hours Away, in 2023.
The project originated as a long-distance email exchange among a founding trio of singer/clarinetist Elana Riordan, singer/guitarist Mitch Myers, and drummer Marco Ocampo. After the members convened in person in Brooklyn in 2021, only months after the group’s formation, they produced the Zigzag Wombat EP. Issued that October on Terrible Records, the release earned acclaim from prominent indie outlets such as Pitchfork. The lineup soon grew into a quintet through the addition of guitarist/singer Kristina Moore (koleżanka) and bassist Eric Jaso (Hypoluxo), leading to 2022 performances alongside Cola, Empath, Momma, and Mamalarky at New York City venues.
During this period Foyer Red recorded its debut album with producer Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, Liars) at Figure 8 Recording in Brooklyn and joined Carpark Records in December 2022. Early that year the band toured with Why Bonnie and koleżanka before the winsomely offbeat Yarn the Hours Away appeared on Carpark in May 2023.
