Biography
For a brief period, Roberday held the position of organist serving Anne of Austria, mother of Louis XIV, as well as Queen Marie-Therese. All surviving compositions by the musician appear in the collection titled "Fugues, et caprices, a quatre parties." Nine fugues make up the contents, with caprices following seven of them. The pieces draw extensively on acknowledged themes supplied by La Barre, Couperin, Cambert, D'Anglebert, Froberger, Bertali, Cavalli, and Ebner. Rhythmic variation joined to robust counterpoint sets the works apart.
