Biography
Francis Harris, also known as Adultnapper, and Anthony Collins, who records as Grant, produce smooth, dreamy deep house as the duo Frank & Tony. Several early EPs featuring work with Bob Moses marked their introduction, followed by the 2014 full-length debut You Go Girl, which earned widespread acclaim. Through their own Scissor & Thread imprint they continued issuing EPs until the project concluded with 2017’s Odes. After pursuing separate endeavors, the pair reconvened and delivered Dream Vibration in 2022, then issued additional EPs ahead of the 2024 album Ethos.
In 2011 the two joined Shawn Schwartz, proprietor of Brooklyn’s Halcyon record shop, and Atlanta-based Michael Scott to establish Scissor & Thread, which began releasing Frank & Tony material in 2012. Early tracks often involved the indie dance duo Bob Moses, who later moved to Domino following their pair of EPs on the label. Resident Advisor and FACT both highlighted the releases, heightening expectations for the first album. That arrived as 2014’s You Go Girl, hailed among the year’s strongest underground house records; the gently euphoric “Bring the Sun” drew particular notice. An edit of the track appeared on DJ Koze’s 2015 DJ-Kicks compilation, while further 12"s continued to surface. The Gales came out on Japan’s Mule Musiq in 2015, though most output stayed on Scissor & Thread until the project wrapped with Odes in 2017.
Each member stayed busy afterward. Francis Harris issued solo work and formed the ambient-leaning duo Aris Kindt with Gabe Hedrick, while Anthony Collins relocated to France, launched a restaurant, and kept producing deep house as Grant. Collins did join Harris for selected U.S. dates in 2019, at which point they discussed future collaboration. Dream Vibration emerged in 2022 as Scissor & Thread’s fiftieth release and the first Frank & Tony EP in five years. Eastern Meantimes and The Early Years, the latter spotlighting the Bob Moses collaborations, followed shortly after. In 2023 the duo released Understanding and Exiles on Pacific Rhythm. Ethos, their second album, appeared in 2024 and included contributions from Lawrence, Eliana Glass, DaRand Land, and DJ Aakmael; Octo Octa, Charles Webster, and Timmy Regisford supplied remixes.
