Decades after captivating audiences of the progressive jazz-fusion outfit Emergency through his guitar work shaped by Jimi Hendrix, Frank Diez continues to rank among Germany’s foremost instrumentalists. Since joining the Atlantis lineup of German guitarist Peter Maffay in 1974, he has sustained an ongoing partnership with Colin Hodgkinson, the bassist formerly associated with Alexis Korner; together they have delivered more than one thousand concerts and issued four albums under the Electric Blues Duo name. Diez issued the solo recording Stranded on Fantasy Island, assisted by Hodgkinson along with pianist/keyboardist and drummer Wolfgang Dalheimer, and in 2001 he joined guitarist Alex Conti for a tour. Additional ventures have included further collaborations. In 1975 he cut the album Daybreak alongside ex-Emergency vocalist Peter Bischof, and he established the group Ihre Kinder “Your Children” together with influential violinist Klaus Kinski (1926-1991). During the late 1970s he contributed to projects with Eric Burdon in both production and performance roles.
