Frank Fontaine entered the world on April 19, 1920, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and built a thriving dual career in acting and vocal performance. His upbringing traced back to circus roots, where his father worked as a “strong man” and his mother performed as a trapeze artist. Fontaine made his initial forays into television acting during the late 1940s and later secured his signature part as Crazy Guggenheim on the series Jackie Gleason & His American Scene Magazine, which aired from 1962 through 1966. The program regularly featured his singing, prompting the issue of multiple albums; among them, Songs I Sing on the Jackie Gleason Show ascended to the top spot on the Billboard Top LPs: Monaural chart and remained there for five weeks in 1963. On August 4, 1978, Fontaine suffered a fatal heart attack in Spokane, Washington.
