Biography
Franklin "Frank" Hovington, an outstanding country blues performer who delivered expressive vocals and dexterous instrumental work long after the style's prime era, first took up the ukulele and banjo while still a child. During the late 1930s and the 1940s he partnered with Willliam Walker for performances at house parties and dances in Frederica, DE. In the late '40s Hovington relocated to Washington, D.C., supplying backing for acts such as Stewart Dixon's Golden Stars and Ernest Ewin's Jubilee Four while also appearing with Billy Stewart's band. He settled in Delaware in 1967; Flyright captured his playing on record in 1975. That year's album proved a landmark release, drawing fresh attention from the blues world to his considerable skills.
