Frank Piombo

New Jersey-based guitarist and vocalist Frank Piombo has spent decades as a versatile working musician whose recordings explore smooth jazz, swing standards, and funk. Of Italian heritage, he entered the world in Libya and first encountered music through performances by his father, a skilled accordionist. Two years after the family relocated to Rome, Piombo arrived with them in the United States at age eight, at which point he started formal guitar instruction. Early enthusiasm for 1950s and 1960s rock & roll later gave way to a focus on jazz, a style he applied while working weddings and neighborhood club gigs. More than thirty years of stage time have produced sideman appearances alongside the Duprees, the Mello-Kings, Vito & the Salutations, Formula Tre, I Nuovi Angeli, and numerous additional groups. Piombo has also cultivated a dedicated audience through his own releases, among them Smooth Reminiscence (2010), Sleepwalk (2011), and The Night Speaks (A Smooth Jazz Journey) (2013).
