Biography
Frankie Lester earned his greatest recognition for serving as lead vocalist with Hal McIntyre's orchestra throughout the mid-1940s. He subsequently took the featured singing role in Buddy Morrow's ensemble during the mid-1950s, a stretch that also yielded his independent sides, among them the 1955 single "Nip Sip." Billy Vera singled out one of Lester's signal accomplishments: his command and commercial use of the vocal phrasing Frank Sinatra would later refine at Capitol in the mid-1950s, an approach Lester committed to disc several years before Sinatra himself documented it. ~ Bruce Eder
