Biography
Formed during 1998 in South Florida, the pop/rock group Friction Farm began as a duo of songwriters: bassist and lead vocalist Christine Stay together with vocalist and guitarist Aidan Quinn. The pair had previously collaborated in the mid-'90s outfit the Resistance, which operated for roughly three years.
Guitarist, vocalist, and keyboardist Pete LeVine joined the lineup in 1999, as did drummer Timothy Moss. That year the ensemble completed its debut album, Galileo's Horse, whose power pop selections included “In the Light,” “Better Than This,” and “Book of Your Regrets.” The release drew favorable notices from outlets such as Jam and Billboard.
Before the band issued its follow-up in 2000, manager John Tovar—who had earlier helped launch acts including Marilyn Manson—came aboard. The sophomore effort, Live at the Legendary L7, captured performances at L7 Studios in Deerfield Beach. Also in 2000, Stay and Quinn received an ASCAP songwriting award. Timothy Moss departed that same year to join Black River; interim percussionists Mike Vullo and Robert Lamont filled the chair until Matt McMeekin became the permanent drummer.
