Friend's energetic new-school electro drum'n'bass style belonged to the acclaimed Swedish imprint Dot, an outfit that launched in early 1997 by issuing four flawless EPs from Hab, Tupilaq, Quant and Friend. The pieces "Chromosome for Sale" and the subsequent "Sauna Sessions" delivered electro-jungle fusion shaped with uncommon precision, and Doktor Kosmos of Komeda lent support on the double-pack Single of the Week EP for one strikingly direct quasi-pop track. Dot released Friend's debut album Hot Rod in September 1997.
