Frolic

Formed during 1995 in Columbus, Ohio, the electronic trio Frolic unites guitarist Jonathan Beard with vocalist Kelly O'Brien and keyboardist Matthew Chinn, the latter pair also bound by marriage. Their work centers on electronic compositions enriched by the individual abilities of Beard and O'Brien. A darker, moodily mysterious atmosphere shapes the group's identity, drawing steady interest from goth and darkwave listeners as well as admirers of Enya and Robert Rich. Early recordings gave greater prominence to guitar, yet 1997 sessions led by O'Brien and Chinn after their move to Florida redirected the focus toward synth-based material. The resulting debut album Permafrost preserved equilibrium between these contrasting elements, while the 2001 follow-up To Dream, Perchance to Sleep expanded the trio's distinctive and appealing stylistic combinations.
