Biography
Originating in Quebec, Canada, the experimental grindcore unit Fuck the Facts traces its beginnings to 1997, when guitarist/vocalist Topon Das launched an unnamed studio endeavor. Multiple cassette releases followed before the project surfaced three years later with its inaugural official album, Discoing the Dead, now bearing the group’s definitive and deliberately confrontational moniker. A fresh configuration issued the second full-length, Mullet Fever, in 2001, comprising Das alongside guitarist Tim Audette, drummer Matt Connell, and vocalist Brent Christoff. Christoff’s departure soon brought vocalist Mel Mongeon into the fold, whose ferocious vocal style has defined the band’s sound from the 2002 release Backstabber Etiquette onward. Equally characteristic has been the frequent turnover of drummers and second guitarists, accompanied by intermittent touring across Canada and the United States and a steady output of numerous split cassettes and EPs each year. Such auxiliary recordings dominated the band’s activities to such an extent that Relapse Records did not issue the next proper album, Stigmata High-Five, until 2006.
