Biography
Mederic Nebinger, a Frenchman performing as Funky Derrick, crafts retrodelia built on disco samples while echoing commercial house. In childhood he studied piano and absorbed both disco and Tangerine Dream. After completing a law degree and taking a position in advertising, exposure to DJ Pierre’s work led him to purchase a sampler and turn to production. His releases stayed infrequent through the 1990s, among them singles issued on the French labels Rave Age and Deja Vous, until Twisted/MCA signed him under the Funky Derrick name. The resulting debut album, Boogie Dawn, arrived in 1999.
