Biography
Emerging amid Surrey’s thriving cluster of new acts in southeast England during the opening years of the 21st century, melodic pop-punk outfit Furthest Drive Home formed in 2003 with Joe Raggett on vocals, guitar, and keyboard, Tommy H on bass, and James Green on percussion. The three musicians initially operated as a trio until they encountered guitarist Jim McCarthey, who joined the lineup in 2004 and established the band as a permanent four-piece.
In 2005 Furthest Drive Home undertook their first nationwide tour, finished near the top of a contest organized by the Taste of Chaos festival promoters, and contributed a track to a Drive-Thru Records compilation. Their debut EP, Lost in Genre, appeared in mid-2006; early the following year Hungry Kids Records offered the group a recording contract. The six-song EP The Complete First Series became their first release on the new imprint, after which they toured alongside the Used, Rise Against, and Funeral for a Friend. The band’s initial U.S. appearance took place at the 2008 South by Southwest Music Conference.
