Having established himself in New York, Cleveland native Galcher Lustwerk emerged during the mid-2010s as one of underground dance music’s most closely watched figures. The producer’s tracks merge deep house rhythms with understated vocals that echo a relaxed take on late-’80s hip-house, yielding a cool yet propulsive version of the Midwest sound. His 2013 mix 100% Galcher quickly gained traction, prompting several of its cuts to appear on subsequent vinyl EPs. Lustwerk later broadened his palette by adding live instrumentation to projects such as the 2019 album Information, while a remastered, unmixed edition of 100% Galcher finally surfaced as a standalone album in 2022.

Prior to settling in Brooklyn in 2011, he had participated in Cleveland’s D.I.Y. punk community and Providence, Rhode Island’s noise circles. In 2012 he joined the White Material collective, which had been launched by associates DJ Richard and Young Male. His earliest vinyl outing, Tape 22, came out on the label in 2013, yet it was the 100% Galcher mix of original material for the Blowing Up the Workshop podcast series that drew widespread attention from house listeners. The EPs Nu Day and Remixes followed on Tsuba Records in 2014. Lustwerk launched his own Lustwerk Music imprint in 2015, inaugurating it with Parlay and I Neva Seen, both of which highlighted standout tracks from the earlier mix. He also issued several digital EPs of “driving music” under the Road Hog alias. In 2016 the double LP Scenes (2012-2015) appeared under the Studio OST moniker, a collaboration with fellow White Material member Alvin Aronson.

Lustwerk’s first proper full-length, Dark Bliss, arrived in 2017, followed by 200% Galcher in 2018. His debut release for Ghostly International, the jazz-tinged Information, emerged in 2019, with the Proof EP arriving the next year. Information Redacted, featuring instrumental takes on material from both projects, was released in 2021. Vinyl editions of work by his Road Hog and 420 side projects surfaced in 2022, the same year Ghostly presented 100% Galcher as an unmixed album.
