Operating as a French ensemble through the closing years of the 1970s, Garcons issued only sparse material, yet the fusion of crisp disco grooves and funk propulsion with punk attitudes—complete with sneering vocals—remained unmatched for nearly a decade, until fluctuations in electronic music once again embraced the appealing sonorities of that earlier era. Consisting solely of the duo Patrick and Thomas, they delivered the LP Divorce in 1979 and collaborated for a period with John Cale, only to disappear from view until nearly two decades later, when the album was reissued to widespread acclaim within the dance music community. Garcons resumed recording in Paris in partnership with Yellow Recordings.
